Individual Counseling

When we're in pain, or struggling with something difficult in our lives, it's normal to resist it, to want the feelings to go away. But when we push our feelings away, our pain can grow bigger.  I provide a compassionate, safe, and supportive space for people to talk about their thoughts and feelings. 
My counseling relationship is individualized to you, based on what's most important to you and your goals. My approach is eclectic but has a strong base in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals (EFIT):
  • Awareness. We think we know what the problem is. But often it goes deeper than what we know. It helps to have a safe space to broaden our awareness of what is causing us pain and why.
  • Acceptance. Building greater acceptance of our thoughts and feelings brings relief, and the ability to see things as they are. We need to be able to see where we are and accept ourselves in order to bring about change in our life. 
  • Compassion. In our culture we tend to be very hard on ourselves. Without kindness for ourselves, exploring what's hard for us can be brutal. This makes change painful, and sometimes impossible. Developing kindness for ourselves and others is a cornerstone to health and happiness. 
  • Strengths. It's important to focus on what is working well in our lives and the strengths that we bring. Solutions and healing are built on our strengths and resilience.​​
